Dooley Brothers to hold Seventh Annual Tailgate

Early Saturday morning tailgate precursor to battle of unbeaten Spartans, Wolverines.

EAST LANSING, MI.--(SPORTS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 1999—Dooley Brothers

The Dooley Brothers will hold their annual tailgate party this Saturday to celebrate the Michigan/Michigan State football game.  The festivities will commence at approximately 6 a.m. on the west side of the ‘A’ lot near Spartan Stadium.   This will mark the seventh occurrence of the annual gathering, the original during the 1993 season.

Michigan State graduated Ron Dooley, 30, of Livonia, MI in 1991, while 28 year-old Greg Dooley of Washington, DC, is a 1993 alumnus of Michigan.  The idea for the party occurred in the fall of ‘92.  As the legend goes, during a tailgate for a different game, a caramel apple fell off the back of a suburban and struck the younger Dooley in the head.  “At that moment”, claims Greg, “the whole concept became real clear.”

This tailgate will be held in keen anticipation of the contest, which matches a pair of unbeaten Big Ten squads in a game that has national title implications.  The 11th ranked Spartans (5-0, 1-0) come off a 49-3 trouncing of Iowa, while the 3rd ranked Wolverines (5-0, 1-0) visit East Lansing after a 38-12 drubbing of the then 11th-ranked Purdue Boilermakers.

The tailgate in past years has received national television coverage from ESPN, who plans to hold its weekly “Gameday” telecast from East Lansing.

Kick-off for the clash of the unbeaten rivals in scheduled for 12:06 p.m., Eastern Time.  The game is sold out.

A limited number of T-shirts will be available to tailgate participants on a first-come, first-serve basis. For directions or other comments and questions:
