Rogers ties up Cardinals at the plate, Tigers tie up the 2006 World Series

COMERICA PARK, DETROIT, MICHIGAN OCTOBER 22, 2006

After a disappointing loss in Game 1, the Detroit Tigers did what they had to do: hop on the back of ageless Kenny Rogers, string together some timely hits, and pack up for St. Louis tied.  Rogers delivered on his part of the deal, and Craig Monroe just destroyed a second inning pitch by former Tiger ace Jeff Weaver to propel the Tigers to a 3-1 win Sunday night.

The weather was cold but the rain that peppered Michigan for most of the day on Saturday disappeared by game time.  We enjoyed the beginning of the game from the heights of section 343, but later settled into some choice Standing Room Only seating.

All the hubbub about the pine tar on Kenny Rogers left palm (see photos left) didn't really make it inside the stadium, at least amongst the fellers focused on beer, baseball and BBQ ribs.  A tip that we learned from Kenny: don't miss out on those Montgomery Ribs just beyond the right field bleachers.  It seems the only people that care about the tar is the media, like Skip Bayless who called for a 10 day suspension on ESPN's Cold Pizza.

Enjoy some photos from Game 2 of the World Series from Comerica Park, as Kenny, Ron, Lew and I celebrated the Great American Pastime at the highest level of competition (I Added this to my list of greatest sporting events ever attended).

Not quite the front row, but good enough.  Here Detroit laces a single to left field. Ron and Kenny back at the center of the sporting universe: they were attended the Super Bowl at Ford Field across the street. One of the great monuments in Center Field at Comerica Park.

Up close on Ty Cobbs's raised spikes in Monument park. Outside Comerica Park after the game: there was quite a buzz before, during and after the game. Enjoying a unique perspective from behind the bar on the lower concourse.
