2005-2006 NFL Picks Conclude, Lewey Shines
ONEKAMA, MICHIGAN JANUARY 2, 2006
Mad props to 2005-06 NFL Ticks champion Lew P. whose team,
"BringBackCoachSmith", posted an impressive 130 correct picks against the
spread this season. St. Louis's win and cover last night against the
favored Dallas Cowboys wrapped up this year's installment of the annual
battle of perseverance and fortitude. A late run by the webmaster's
team failed to catch the hot Lew, who leveraged a hunch that the favorites
were undervalued this season.
Your 2005-2006 Factoids. Feel free to comment:
- Chalk Horses: It was a very big year for the
favorites as mentioned, I didn't do a complete review but the favorites,
according to my figures, covered about 57% of the time (after throwing out
the 11 pushes). Had any of these fellers taken just the favorites
each week, he would have won the title with plenty of room to spare.
- Not quitting our day jobs....: Lew's impressive
130 correct picks put him at about 53% for the year. Fortunately we
were not wagering with the Vegas book, or the house would have cleaned
our collective clocks, even CoachSmith.
- ...Maybe quitting our day Jobs: While as
individuals we would have been crushed by Vegas, of the 17 instances when
the 5 fellers agreed on a given game, we won 11. Had we bet $1000 on
each of these "locks", the flawed five would have cleared $4400.
- Weekly Racks : By taking week 17, the
webmaster won or tied 7 of the 17 weeks on the Ticks tour this year.
CoachSmith was runner up with 6, followed by Dillon with 4. The
highest total for a given week was Lew's unreal 13 he posted in week 13.
That probably sealed the title for big Lew.
- The Captain's Log : Four was a tough number
for Dillon's Locks. Not only was 4 the worst week of anyone in the
league, Dillion managed to post the quad on four different weeks.
- Dutch Oven: Speaking of weekly racks, Big
Frannie only took two, but finished 1 behind G. for third. The key?
Dutch kept it warm, never dipping below 6 correct picks in any week.
- Ties that Bind: While Week 14 looked on
paper to be a real blunder for the team, the week was offset by an uncanny
3 pushes.
