Big Steps for JDRF

Coach John L. Smith leads first walk in East Lansing; Larger crowd than expected

EAST LANSING, MI AUGUST 8, 2005

For the second year, several of my friends and family walked in support of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).  This was the first year the walk was held in East Lansing, and was led by honorary Chairman and Spartan head coach John L. Smith (above, cutting the start ribbon).  Once again team Jumpin' Jack Flash was impressive.  Team Flash has raised over $20,000 so far and will be tough to beat.  Thanks to everyone that donated and walked with us.  If you want to support this year's drive, you still can by following the banner above or this link.

Here are some of the epic photos from Saturday's walk:

Dina and Ron, the captains of team JJ Flash, on campus during the walk.

Jack took a few detours on the route, this time monkeying around in a tree.

Caroline, Abby and Jess gear up before the walk with the big red wagon.

Coach Smith gave his pep talk to the crowd before the walk. Kathryn, Lew and Penny drove up from Ann Arbor to join the crew!

Some of the ducks that spilled out of the Red Cedar.  Caroline and Abby can't believe it.

About 3 times as many people showed to the walk, and the refreshments were gobbled up quick.

McGruff offers some crime fighting tips to Abby. Grandma (and Grandpa) were on the walk committee and helped out.
