Ryder Cup Circus Hits Town

Oakland Hills readies for the huge event

OAKLAND HILLS, MICHIGAN SEPTEMBER 10, 2004

As a volunteer for the 2004 Ryder Cup, I was onsite Tuesday for some training.  I'll be working in the main merchandise tent between the first and eighth holes.  Don't worry, you won't miss it.  First off - the tent is 33,000 square feet.  Second, they make sure just about everyone entering the course is funneled by or through the tent.  The International Pavilion is seen left.

I snapped a few photos (on the sly):

Outside the Merchandise Tent.

That's right - 33,000 square feet of Ryder Cup gear. One of the prints for sale - this of the 16th hole. Fellers setting up the scoreboard - reusing the board from the PGA Championship. More evidence of the circus that just left Wisconsin.
